Iris Publishers, "your one-stop-place for latest scientific!"

The About Us webpage of Iris Publishers (7/12/18) has such ringing phrases as "your one-stop-place for latest scientific!" "aiding the growth of learners ... for the prosperity of science." They want "to exploit the scientific information"and "to unfold the quality research globally." To exploit and unfold, IRIS uses a "potential Editorial team" and a "highly qualified and expert Editorial committee [that] is indulged in scrutinizing articles with stringent peer review process ensuring that it follows our policies." Who could ask for anything more? Iris has pictures of 35 journals on its website -- 36 you count the World Journal of Yoga and Natural Therapy twice -- because it "is an ambidextrous journal." The domain name irispublishers.org is registered to New Dream Network, LLC dba DreamHost Web Hosting. The telephone number on the contact page, 914-407-6109, also is used by Lupine Publishers, which is "focuse...

SciDoc is "spreading the knowledge from the desks to the doors of the masses"

From the SciDoc website: "SciDoc Publishers achievements till date includes: ... Special Issues, which is roaring high." Among the many journal titles listed there is the "JBR Journal of Translational Space dentistry, Medicine and Exploration (JBR-TSME)." The editor-in-chief is "Balwant Rai, Director of Space dentistry, Kepler Space Institute, USA." The Kepler Space Institute's home page explains that the institute "is dedicated to the expansion of human civilization from Earth into space. We believe this is necessary, both to acquire resources – based on the Law of Space Abundance to provide the fundamental needs of preserving peace and prosperity for humankind on this planet – and to extend life through our solar system and beyond." Mr. Rai's name does not appear on this website, but he is editor-in-chief of OMICS ' JBR Journal of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Dental Science . That speaks volumes. The International Journal of Foren...

InTechOpen, Intech, Sciyo

InTechOpen's main web pages site are devoid of the usual solecisms and grammatical errors seen on the websites of many smaller and plainly questionable publishers preying on academics. The About Us page describes the group as "the world's largest Science, Technology and Medicine Open Access book publisher." It claims InTechOpen "has published 2,977 books and 46,833 scientific works total by 100,665 international scientists" (whatever "international" means in this context). That would be about 2 books every 3 days and 11 articles every day, 7 days a years, for the 12 years of InTechOpen's existence. In 2018, InTechOpen wanted me to pay them 1,400 Euros to write a chapter of between 14 and 20 pages for a book on "Trends and Challenges in Forensic Analysis ? New Frontiers in Forensic Science." I have to wonder about the question mark in the title, but there is not much doubt about likely quality. The subject areas include "nuclear p...

Biocore's International Journal of Criminal and Forensic Science: An exhilarating approach

Biocore's International Journal of Criminal and Forensic Science " will emphasize high-level research of clinical relevance and exhilarating approach." It "deals with clinical case reports, mysterious incidents happens in the Forensic and Criminal research group." One not-so-exhilarating incident is the publication of a previously published paper on "Fingerprint Geometric Analysis." (Compare the IJCFS paper with the JFCI paper .)* The paper is mysterious indeed, but it ends with the promise that "Be assured, this method will provide a successful outcome!" Biocore has been labelled a predatory publisher and conference organizer . This journal has no editor-in-chief named, but it lists an editorial with the following members as of 5/16/18: ⊡ Dobbert Duane , Professor, Division of Justice Studies, American College of Forensic Examiners International ⊡ Ismail M. Sebetan , Professor of Forensic Sciences, National University ⊡ Presley Larry , As...

Scholarena feels pleasure to publish names of toes

Scholarena promises to “enlighten your knowledge” with such journals as JMSA ( Journal of Mathematical and Statistical Analysis ), which “publishes significant and important research from all area [sic] of mathematical and statistical science fields such as pure and applied mathematics ... .” It might not seem surprising that a mathematics journal would publish papers on pure mathematics, but the logos on the journal’s website show a nice microscope, test tubes and skeletal structural formulas for a few organic molecules. Maybe that is the publisher’s idea of mathematics, for the website states that this mathematics journal “aims . . for sharing new empirical findings and novel ideas in the emerging field of clinical, health and medical professions education.” The articles in press, the current issue, and the archive can be described by the null set {}. For all the graphics, the journal is empty. It has an editorial board of one person. Or does it? The editor is said to be “Mais Nijim,...

Immense Pleasure from Open Access Text (OAT)

Open Access Text (OAT) seems to another collection of manuscripts from India. Why do I say that?  ⊗ 113 journals at www.oatext.com/journals with titles ranging from "Mouth and Teeth" to "Translational Brain Rhythmicity". ⊗ A known spammer (see http://www.scientificspam.net/?p=139 ) that takes "immense pleasure contact an eminent person" like me to publish in a radiology journal, even though I am neither an MD, a radiologist, or anything else connected with the field. ⊗ A lot of blather on the website, such as "OA Text galvanizes a community of scientists that collaboratively advances and communicates science and its power to ensure a sustainable future." ⊗ Journals publish trivial articles. E.g., ZiÄ™ba-Palus J (2017) Forensic examinations of micro-traces. Forensic Sci Criminol 2, doi: 10.15761/FSC.1000113. ⊗ Email omitted an address for the journal, but it came from an Indian server. ⊗ The domain oatext.com is registered to Ranjith Donthi, 114A B...

Scientific Federation Wants You To "avail this opportunity to share your scientific excellences"

Scientific Federation is "taking the step to transform the technology" that is "now-a-days ... growing in rapid way in all aspects of medical, physics, clinical and pharma." How? Primarily through "proficient and international scientific conferences worldwide with associating the world class researchers." (For more on Scientific Federation's conference business, see http://flakyc.blogspot.com/2017/01/scientific-federation-sf.html and http://flakyc.blogspot.com/2017/04/greetings-from-forensic-science.html .) Operating out of Hyderabad (judging by the domain registration), this "abode for researchers" also publishes some journals (or wants to).  SciFed Journal of Forensics Among SciFed's laundry list of journals is the SciFed Journal of Forensics . The journal "encourages genuine, non-plagiarized ... submissions [that's good to know!] such as research article, ... image article, videos & graphical presentations ... ." If...

Avens Journal of Forensic Investigation Checks for Genuinity

The Avens Publishing Group (discussed in a separate posting ) is another flaky online publisher pretending (or striving) to be "a vast database of journals." Unlike many of its competitors in India, it solicited me to buy space in a journal on a subject that I do know something about. This Journal of Forensic Investigation is interested in "science and technology elevating the facts, ensuring social justice and well being." The website (8/25/17) explains that Once a manuscript is submitted, it is assigned to one of our Eminent Editorial Board members to check the genuinity , novelty and quality of research. The manuscript is evaluated by the respective editor within two days of submission. If the manuscript meets the standards of Avens, further proceeding of the manuscript is carried out . The status of acceptance/rejection will be intimated by the editorial office. Leading the "Eminent Editorial Board" as editor-in-chief is " Dr. Robert W. Alle...

Avens Publishing Group Is "Alive to the Rapidly Growing Research"

Avens Publishing Group looks like another spammer pretending to have a US office. According to Zillow (8/24/17) and other websites, its US address (47 Hemlock Dr, Northborough, MA 01532) is that of a home for sale "in desirable Hemlock Estates" that features a "[m]aple kitchen with center island, granite counters, stainless steel appliances." The domains avenspublishing.com and avensonline.org are some of a long list registered by Ashwin Kumar plotno:505,jyothiraditya apartments, srinagar colony, Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh 5000073 India Phone: +91.9177734525 The site is hosted in India by Hostgator Asian Operations Division. The domain for the website was purchased through Go Daddy on May 8, 2014. It describes "a vision to encourage the existing scientists, experts and young scientists to enlighten the common society."Although "newly started," Avens' About Us page claims (8/25/17) a "vast database of journals"-- "46 interna...

Austin Publishing Group

Austin Publishing Group sports an unbelievable number of journals, from the Austin Journal of Allergy to the Annals of Yoga and Physical Therapy ..How real they all are is a question I do not have the time the answer. Austin Statistics , for example, has only one issue. It consists of three articles. One is a page about the journal itself, which begins, "It's a real privilege and high honor for me to write for the Inaugural issue of Austin Statistics. The publication of Austin Statistics is indeed welcomed news! I also wish to extend my congratulations to the Austin Publishing Group and the Editor for assembling a diverse group of talented professionals to serve on the editorial board of the journal." 1 / If the journal has an editor, it prefers to keep his or her identity a secret. This slim ouvre of June 27, 2014, continues to be the " current issue " (8/23/17) on the website. In addition to these telltale signs, Austin Publishing Group made it onto Beall...

ISaMed Journals Aspire to Inherit the Research Globally

ISaMed Journals website (6/19/17) is full of danger signs -- a vacuous slogan, empty webpages, a fake address , and a domain name registered by proxy to hide the real parties. The About Us page reports that ISAMED Journals publishes Open Access Journals in the research of science and medical fields. ISAMED ... does not have any funding source. ISAMED Journals acts as a connecting link between researchers and readers across the scientific community. OMICS Journal of Forensic Medicine

OMICS has long been criticized for aggressively and deceptively promoting conferences and journals of dubious quality. In 2012, the Chronicle of Higher Education reported that although OMICS began publishing in 2008, "only about 60 percent of [its 200] journals have actually published anything."  As of 2012, NIH informed OMICS that PubMed Central would not accept any OMICS Publishing Group journals because the "[National Library of Medicine's] selection group has raised serious concerns about the publishing practices of your organization." A letter demanded "that you cease and desist from employing our name or the name of any of our agencies institutes or employees on your website for other than true factual statements." The website of its Journal of Forensic Medicine includes such morsels as "Forensic Medicine is a multidisciplinary subject ... used to for the scientific assessment of DNA, blood samples, and so on. Forensic plays an ...

The Global Scientific Library (GSL) Journal of Forensic Research

"Global Science Library (GSL) is one of newly start-up publishers [that] aims at making access to knowledge FREE for ALL." Its website (4/23/17) sports the names of 34 journals. The first one I heard from, the GSL Journal of Forensic Research , purports to have 19 editors but apparently needs more (see the email below). These editors include ⊖ Dr. Kristin Holland , Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, United States ⊖ Dr. Heath Grant , John Jay College of Criminal justice, United States ⊖ Dr. Judge Mary A Celeste , National Judicial College, United States The "Dr. Judge" is a retired Denver County judge who is a consultant "designated as an expert witness on marijuana and driving in a Court of Law" with one article in a peer reviewed journal listed on her C.V. The affiliation with the National Judicial College is "Adjunct Faculty." "Newly start-up" seems to be a euphemism as well as a solecism. Apparently, there is no editor-...
