Gece Academy: Pay to Publish Your Dissertation or Thesis

It is easy to have a dissertation published. In addition to outfits that help with the construction of any e-book from any paying author who wants to self-publish, there is ProQuest Dissertations & Theses , which boasts "[t]he largest collection of electronic theses and dissertations available worldwide ... 4 million works from more than 3,000 universities, [with] more than 130,000 works [added] annually" (10/5/18). (On the perils of publishing with ProQuest, see Kathryn Hume's remarks in https://theprofessorisin.com/2011/08/24/the-perils-of-publishing-your-dissertation-online/ .) Another option for avoiding the screening process or criteria of traditional, relatively selective academic publishing houses is to turn to publishers who are less picky or who use different criteria . Obviously, these publications will carry little brand-name prestige, and expecting high quality line and copy editing could well be unrealistic. But you have to pay for them anyway with Gece ...

Iris Publishers, "your one-stop-place for latest scientific!"

The About Us webpage of Iris Publishers (7/12/18) has such ringing phrases as "your one-stop-place for latest scientific!" "aiding the growth of learners ... for the prosperity of science." They want "to exploit the scientific information"and "to unfold the quality research globally." To exploit and unfold, IRIS uses a "potential Editorial team" and a "highly qualified and expert Editorial committee [that] is indulged in scrutinizing articles with stringent peer review process ensuring that it follows our policies." Who could ask for anything more? Iris has pictures of 35 journals on its website -- 36 you count the World Journal of Yoga and Natural Therapy twice -- because it "is an ambidextrous journal." The domain name irispublishers.org is registered to New Dream Network, LLC dba DreamHost Web Hosting. The telephone number on the contact page, 914-407-6109, also is used by Lupine Publishers, which is "focuse...

Vandeplas Publishing

I am not suggesting that Vanderplas Publishing is a scammer or a predatory publisher. Its publications include books by perfectly reputable authors. But there are a number of question marks: It periodically solicits me in separate mailings to multiple email addresses. A book has this review from Judge Alex Kozinzki (ret.): "If you’re holding this book in your hands – as you no doubt must be – just start turning pages and get ready for a treat.” That sounds good, but, hey, it it is an eBook . Still, at $9.95, the price is right. The office address is one of those provided by Regus, a company that supplies "virtual offices" and "will receive and sign for mail and packages." It advertises a "professional company image without the cost of a physical office." However, it also leases spared space and rooms. Buzzfile, a company database, estimates only "$114,590 in annual revenues" and "approximately 2 people at this [Lake Mary, Florida] loc...

Scholarly Pages (previously The Scientific Pages?): "You can submit as you write"

All indicators are negative. The website text includes the following delicts: ⊘ "Scholarly Pages provide track for a variety of international scientific journals to access the latest updates in the interrelated fields” ⊘ “Each journal has the ... experts' team providing support and guidance ... to improvise the submitted papers ... .” ⊘ “Peer Reviewer carried out by the scholarly peers play a crucial role in ensuring the scientific integrity of the scholarly record entailed with us.” ⊘ “The individuality status and exertion habits of the lead editor play major roles in setting the editorial pitch.” The Annals of Atoms and Molecules solicits papers on such topics as Bohr Model, Chemical Bonding Explained, and Formation. The entire journal consists of a five-page article from Hungary (László Nemes (2017) Carbon Vapor and Carbon Plasma Infrared Emission. Ann Atoms Molecules 1(1):1-5). The publisher's alleged address is 1805 N Carson St, Carson City. Nevada. Zillo identifies ...

SOAOJ Publishing, where "outstand care is taken"

SOAOJ Publishing advertises "Medical Science Open Access Open Journals" and "Engineering Open Access Open Journals" with titles as "Accident Anaesthetic and Critical care Open Access Open Journal (AACCOAOJ)" and "Mathematics and Humanities Engineering Open Access Open Journal (MHEOAOJ)." I guess that is better than publishing open access closed journals. The homepage floridly explains (4/4/18) S Open access Open journals-(SOAOJ) ... provides a platform to publish ... in all areas of sciences. We accept scientifically rigorous research, regardless of novelty . ... It is accomplished to carry out the highest excellence ... . Who Put the "American" in "American Research Journals"?

According to the American Research Journal of Genetics , “[g]enetics is theoriginal [sic] study of all aspects of human and animal genetics ... .” Oh well, I never cared for plant genetics anyway. The named editors include “Dr. Niels Morling , MD, DMSc, Professor of Forensic Genetics, Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.” Although the website reports no articles in press and no editor-in-chief, it assures us that “the current issue edition will be published shortly.” The American Journal of Nanotechnology is in the same boat — no articles in press, and no editor-in-chief. Yet, it too maintains that “the current issue edition will be published shortly We highly appreciate and encourage the Professors, Research scholars, Students, Research fellows etc, to globally publish their articles in our Journal.” The American Research Journal of Mathematics has no articles in press, but it has a couple of past issues. The non-US affiliations of most of the editors ...

Copernicus Publishers

Not to be confused with Copernicus Publications in Germany, Copernicus Publishing is just entering a crowded field of pretenders. Copernicus Publishing's website (copernicuspublishing.com) identifies two academic journals -- Archives of Psychology and Clinical Medicine Review (CMR). The link to the latter does not work, but the website (such as it is) can be found at www.clinicalmedicinereview.org). The solicitation spam fails to mention that there is no such journal -- at least, not yet. Clicking on "current" and "archives" triggers the response "This journal has not published any issues." Clicking on "Authors Guidelines" yields "File not found." The website lists neither an editor nor an editorial board. The publisher's motto ought to be, "After they come, we'll build it." The domain names copernicuspublishing.org and copernicuspublishing.com were registered by GoDaddy's Domains By Proxy on Feb. 7, 201...

SMGroup: "Hello Researcher"

SMGroup has a US address: SM Online Scientific Resources LLC, # 160 Greentree Drive, Suite 101, Dover, DE 19904, USA. This is the address of National Registered Agents, Inc. , a company that lends its address to corporations. The domains smjournals.org, smjournals.com, and sm-international.net are not registered to the true principals, but only to GoDaddy.com's Domains By Proxy. Sryahwa Publications Hordes Journals

This Hyderabad publisher triple spammed me in one day. Its website announces (11/19/17) that "We horde internationally-recognized, peer-reviewed journals ... ." The horde includes articles on such topics as "the Dynamics Faced by Females as they Transition ... into the Abyss of Entrepreneurship." Checking out an article on "The New Universe Model" in the Open Access Journal of Physics (1:1, 2017), I learned that [T]here is tardyonic centrifugal force and tachyonic centripetal force coexistence. It is the universe foundations. All matter has the tachyonic gravity. We should establish new cosmological theory and new particle physics theory. ... The Einstein field equations are wrong..Dark matter, dark energy, observable gravitational waves and black holes do not exist. Multiverse and inflation are mistake. Because "Sryahwa Publications strictly opposes the plagiarism," it requires "author’s to submit a signed statement that ... no part ...

Avens Publishing Group Is "Alive to the Rapidly Growing Research"

Avens Publishing Group looks like another spammer pretending to have a US office. According to Zillow (8/24/17) and other websites, its US address (47 Hemlock Dr, Northborough, MA 01532) is that of a home for sale "in desirable Hemlock Estates" that features a "[m]aple kitchen with center island, granite counters, stainless steel appliances." The domains avenspublishing.com and avensonline.org are some of a long list registered by Ashwin Kumar plotno:505,jyothiraditya apartments, srinagar colony, Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh 5000073 India Phone: +91.9177734525 The site is hosted in India by Hostgator Asian Operations Division. ISaMed Journals website (6/19/17) is full of danger signs -- a vacuous slogan, empty webpages, a fake address , and a domain name registered by proxy to hide the real parties. Science Domain International

I would guess that Science Domain International is another Indian venture. If there is a main address on the website , it is well hidden. Emails for the Journal of Scientific Research and Reports give three addresses -- London, Delhi, and New Castle (in Delaware). But SDI does not seem to have an office in Delaware. The New Castle address actually is for Agents and Corporation, Inc., a " remote agent " firm that provides cheap incorporations in Delaware. Wherever it may be located, however, SDI has a "thirst for excellence" and "top innovation." SDI also may be operating as International Knowledge (IK) Press ( discussed here ) and ResearchPromotion.com. Scientific Spam reported that Something calling itself “ScienceDomain International Ltd”, apparently of Third Floor, 207 Regent Street, London, W1B 3HH, continues to turn up in spamtraps. They have existed as an UK company twice, but both registrations have been dissolved (Reg. No 07794635 – Dissolved o...

Centre of Excellence for Scientific & Research Journalism (COES&RJ)

A conference organizer (Turkey, Malaysia, UAE, and China, many cancelled ) and publisher of oddly organized journals, CIES&RJ pretends to have a US address (that belongs to a warehouse and is used by international scammers ). The email I received (2/1/17) was for the "Journal of Social Sciences." The website refers to a "Journal of Law," but that link goes to the other journal. The only editorial board listed (2/1/17) is for the "Journal of Business and Management," whose editor-in-chief is Dr. Ra'ed (Mo'hd Taisir) Masa'deh , Dean: Faculty of Management, University of Jordan, Aqaba, Jordan. The domain coesnrj.com was registered by GoDaddy.com for Nasir Shamsi, 10685-B Hazelhurst Dr. # 16258, Houston, Texas 77043 (the warehouse address), +1-281-407-7509, shamsipnp@hotmail.com. According to the About Us page of the center's website, the center is a Texas corporation with legal name COES&RJ, LLC (same telephone number) for which ...

Knowledge Enterprises, Inc. (KEI Journals)

Beall saw it as " a publisher to avoid ". The emails do have a personal touch (if you happen to be "Dr. Dr. Kaye DH"). The true names behind the domain are hidden, as DomainsByProxy registered the domain name. LinkedIn (7/2/18) has the following entry for Katerina Bielka, M.D., whose name is on most of the spam: anaesthesiology and intensive care, pain management, Ukraine, Medical Practice, Bogomolets National Medical University, Clinic "Boris", Kiyv city hospital #17. Update (5/3/18): Medical Research Archives' "confidential" spam now drops any mention of KEI, but the domain for its email, medicalresearcharchives.com, is registered by GoDaddy.com to KEI Journals NA, 340 S Lemon Ave #7750, Walnut California 91789 US, +1.7632441130, f@zel.li. The address, which also appears in the strange confidentiality notice, is useful to many businesses who want to make it appear that they have a physical presence in California. See How Scitech Central Fak...
