Would you trust this individual or group with your words? The startup website (viewed 11/17/16) includes remarks such as these?

• "Gavin Publishers is a newly launched international open access organization with all its journals are in the initial stages of developments."
• "Gavin Publishers ... publishes all kinds of manuscripts ... from the fields related to CLinical, Biology and Medical especially. Our passion to serve the scientific community drove us ... . We strive hard to spread the knowledge ... . We welcome ... people involved in and around the fields of Clinical, Biological and Medical, with open arms to come forward to share and to gain the knowledge on an open access platform. [W]e can build a huge platform ... ."
• Although "[a]rticle processing charges are required for accepted manuscripts in order to manage the publication costs," the charges are not listed.

Like the Academicians Research Center email, some of Gavin's emails close with an inspiring "Looking forward for long lasting scientific relationship. With Regards, ..." Maybe there is a connection, maybe not. The people behind Gavin Publishers are not easily traced. The domains gavinpublishers.biz and peerreviewjournals.net used in some email (Do I detect a sense of irony here?) were registered by Domains by Proxy (a GoDaddy company dedicated to shielding the operators of websites from discovery). Gavinpublishers.org was registered by the Australian company, Privacy Protection Services.

UPDATE 7/31/18: A reader sent an email from "Emma Lou, Receiving Editor" (nursinghealthcareresearch.gp@medposts.net) dated July 6, 2018, and entitled "Kindly Review the Manuscript: IJNHR-123 | International Journal of Nursing and Health Care Research." On the one hand, Gavin contacted an appropriate peer reviewer. On the other hand, it offered her only three choices: "give your comments accordingly whether to revise with major comments and minor comments or accepted the manuscript without changes." It seems that rejection is not an option for this Gavin journal.

UPDATE 11/20/18: Solicitation spam from Gavin's Anthropology Open Access does not identify the publisher. The journal's website struggles (and fails) to explain what anthropology is, stating that the "journal ... covers various aspects of humans within past and present societies in context to all parameters with evolutionary mechanism."

Journal of Forensic Studies

A webpage explains (or tries to) that Forensic Studies "covers various aspects like criminal and civil laws. Forensic Studies including Fingerprints collect, preserve, and analyze scientific evidence during the course of an investigation. Forensic Studies provides a unique platform that forensic scientists testify asexpert [sic] witnesses in both criminal and civil cases and can work for either the prosecution or the defense and related discipline."

Another webpage reads (9/1/17) "Forensic studies is a scientific journal which covers high quality manuscripts which are both relevant and applicable to the broad field of" -- wait for it -- "Forestry. This journal encompasses the study related to the majority of forensically related cases."

The journal spams for an editorial board. It lacks a named editor-in-chief, but the board members from the US (9/1/17) are said to be Steven A. Koehlera, University of Pittsburgh; Kathryn C Seigfried-Spellar, Purdue University; Robert Green, University of kent; Peter R Stout, Houston Forensic Sciences Center; Deborah K Circo, Northcentral University; Kọ́lá Abímbọ́lá, Howard University, Washington; Duane L. Dobbert, Capella University; Kiran Bano, University of Connecticut; Josh Brunty, Marshall University.

I looked for some information on the first name in the list. Dr. Koehlera is an associate professor in Pitt's department of epidemiology who is also listed an an editor of an OMICS journal and a journal I had not encountered before -- the Scholarena Journal of Forensic Science. -- which seems to have stalled with Issue 1 of  Volume 1 in May 2015 (now listed under the "Current Issue" link.)..
