Who Put the "American" in "American Research Journals"?

According to the American Research Journal of Genetics , “[g]enetics is theoriginal [sic] study of all aspects of human and animal genetics ... .” Oh well, I never cared for plant genetics anyway. The named editors include “Dr. Niels Morling , MD, DMSc, Professor of Forensic Genetics, Department of Forensic Medicine, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.” Although the website reports no articles in press and no editor-in-chief, it assures us that “the current issue edition will be published shortly.” The American Journal of Nanotechnology is in the same boat — no articles in press, and no editor-in-chief. Yet, it too maintains that “the current issue edition will be published shortly We highly appreciate and encourage the Professors, Research scholars, Students, Research fellows etc, to globally publish their articles in our Journal.” The American Research Journal of Mathematics has no articles in press, but it has a couple of past issues. The non-US affiliations of most of the editors ...

Copernicus Publishers

Not to be confused with Copernicus Publications in Germany, Copernicus Publishing is just entering a crowded field of pretenders. Copernicus Publishing's website (copernicuspublishing.com) identifies two academic journals -- Archives of Psychology and Clinical Medicine Review (CMR). The link to the latter does not work, but the website (such as it is) can be found at www.clinicalmedicinereview.org). The solicitation spam fails to mention that there is no such journal -- at least, not yet. Clicking on "current" and "archives" triggers the response "This journal has not published any issues." Clicking on "Authors Guidelines" yields "File not found." The website lists neither an editor nor an editorial board. The publisher's motto ought to be, "After they come, we'll build it." The domain names copernicuspublishing.org and copernicuspublishing.com were registered by GoDaddy's Domains By Proxy on Feb. 7, 201...

Scientific Advances Publishers (SAP)

To its credit, Scientific Advances Publishers makes no effort to hide its location. But this "open access publisher" demands the copyright and spams at will. One has to wonder about the quality of the editing when a " FAQ's " page notes that "SAP journals decide to adjust the article processing charges since January 1, 2015 so as to make it more fairness and rationality." And what is the point of publishing three journals -- a Journal of Mathematical Sciences: Advances and Applications , a Journal of Pure and Applied Mathematics: Advances and Applications , and a Journal of Statistics: Advances in Theory and Applications -- when the first one alone "is devoted to the publication of articles of current interest in the field of Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Application"? Too Many IJARs

So many low quality and predatory journals have sprung up that they are having trouble finding unique names. Today (9 Mar. 2018), I heard from “International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR)” — “an open access, peer-reviewed, International Journal, that provides rapid publication (monthly) of research articles, review articles and short communications in all subjects.” That’s all subjects. Not just all of science, or all of engineering, or all of the arts, or all of the humanities. Nope, this one “journal” gives you all of the above. And it does so with nearly instant, double-blind peer review: All the Submitted papers will be assigned Unique Manuscript Number with in 24 hours after submission. ... The Reviewing process is completed with in 10 days after submission. What could be better than a manuscript with a Unique Manuscript Number? As for content, suffice it to say that IJAR’s most frequently downloaded “article” is a 107-page chemistry Ph.D. thesis penned by a graduate of Drav...
